We sometimes don’t know when we will die. And all the stuff we own has to go somewhere. Most of it gets thrown in the trash and buried in some landfill — not so very much different to how we end up. What I keep thinking about is how we all have such unique personalities, mannerisms, perspectives on life, a body that has continually been growing and changing in some manner since we were born, sayings that we are known for, impacts that we have on people’s lives — and in an instant (like in Tom’s case) it is gone. It is almost as though we might as well not have lived at all. This is especially poignant if you don’t believe in an afterlife — if you believe, as I mostly do, that there is no realm that our unique souls travel to once we depart our current reality.
